Dynamometer Selection Factors and Precautions

 

In AC/DC motor, engine, gearbox and power tool tests, it is often necessary to use the dynamometer, the dynamometer mainly tests the torque, speed and output power of the unit under test. However, not every dynamometer can meet the testing requirements of all units under test, so the following three aspects should be considered when selecting a dynamometer:

 

1) Torque test range: The torque of the dynamometer is usually a large torque value that cannot be exceeded. If the test is completed in a short time, there will generally not be too many problems.

 

2) Speed test range: The speed of the dynamometer is usually the maximum speed that cannot be exceeded. If it is used at overspeed for a long time, the service life of the dynamometer will be greatly shortened, easily lead to mechanical wear.

 

3) The power marked on the dynamometer usually refers to the power that the dynamometer can absorb, that is, the output power of the AC/DC motor, engine, gearbox or power tool under test. Strictly speaking, this indicator cannot be exceeded, otherwise the dynamometer will easily burn out due to the inability to dissipate heat.

 

The selection of dynamometer should not only meet the three main technical indicators of speed, torque and power, but also whether it meets the specific requirements of the test. Generally, it is necessary to test the no-load speed, no-load loss, locked-rotor moment and other parameters of the unit under test, which is also an issue that needs to be considered. When selecting a dynamometer , all test data of the unit to be tested are between 30% and 90% of the dynamometer performance parameters. Because the test accuracy of the dynamometer in this range is guaranteed, it is mainly divided into three parts: the mechanical part of the dynamometer, the accuracy range of the torque sensor, and the display accuracy of the power analyzer.
